Hip-Hop Stars Named in Steroid Probe
Roger Clemens might have company on the
‘I-Didn’t-Do-Steroids’ press conference circuit. 50 Cent, Timbaland, Wyclef
Jean, Mary J. Blige and actor Tyler Perry were among an A-list roster of
celebrities named in a probe by Albany County District Attorney David Soares.
The celebs allegedly ordered performance-enhancing steroids or human-growth
hormones from doctors and pharmacists under investigation by Soares’
department. According to published reports, investigators are looking into the
doctors and pharmacists, not the celebrities who’ve been named.
Blige’s attorney has denied the allegations and told the NY Daily News that his client “has never taken any drugs in recent years.” So far, the aforementioned rappers have remained silent, especially 50 Cent, whose backstage dalliance with a certain illegal substance was accidentally caught on tape by a Croatian television crew in December.
What are the implications for this juicing scandal? Well, some fans might call for an asterisk to be added next to these artists' Grammy awards or Billboard chart sales; other fans might ask for refunds on albums and concert tickets. Any way you slice it, this entire affair might get very nasty. Now that sports and music are wrestling with the doping issue, other industries might be next. Carrot Top, we’re watching you.
