I’m not one to care about gossip (a total lie), but while attempting to stop looking for updates on a certain pop star, I was equally as shocked to find a news report that Shins keyboardist Marty Crandall was arrested last weekend for allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend, America’s Next Top Model Elyse Sewell. Lets be honest: the Shins aren’t the most rowdy band, so things don’t really match up here. However, I’m not going to speculate on this, well, dysfunctional relationship. Both parties were arrested on Friday and will be heading to court later this week.

What it did arouse, however, was a bit of backtracking in my mind as to famous musician/model couplings. The appeal is obviously there — beautiful women have always been muses for artists, and the need for the spotlight is a shared interest. Personally, I always thought Jack White and his pairing with model Karen Elson was one of the more interesting ones (they also just announced they are having a new baby — congrats!); while our good friends and tabloid heroes Pete Doherty and Kate Moss were doomed from the beginning. All we can hope is that any future relationships of this kind will not see the same unexpected fate as Crandall and Sewell.
