Annie Lennox is Probably Better Off Without Her Record Label Anyway

Posted on January 16, 2008

annie lennox.jpgAnnie Lennox, who you may have heard of at least 15,000 times in your time on this earth, was given the royal snub this week by her now ex-record label, Sony BMG. Lennox's contract was set to run out this week, and her repeated phone calls to the label were not returned.

According to Soundgenerator.com, Lennox had the following reaction: "They totally ignored me. It was bizarre. It was a kick in the teeth. They didn't return my phone calls or emails for three weeks. I'm trying to find out what's behind it."

Seriously? Is the traditional record industry so washed up that they can't even bother with etiquette anymore? Maybe Sony BMG got confused and thought that "changing business model" meant "communicate exclusively via smoke signal". Still, if 2007 taught us anything, it's that you don't need your record label. I'm not going to name names, at the risk of overexposing a certain band on the LWMB ... but I'm just sayin'...
