Devo Celebrates De-evolution with New Album!
It’s been nearly two decades since Devo released its eighth studio album, Smooth Noodle Maps. But they’ve been on the reunion circuit lately, playing short tours of large-ish venues. The band recently announced it would play its classic first album Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! in its entirety in London. (Hey, how about scheduling a similar show on native soil, guys?) Devo will also make an appearance at SXSW next week—and whenever elder musical statesmen show up in Austin, it tends to be a sign that they’ve got something up their sleeves. So… it makes perfect sense that the band is gearing up to release a new album this fall.
Here’s the official word from Club Devo: “What the iconic new wave, art punk pioneers cautioned us about almost
30 years ago is no longer a humorous theory. It’s pretty much fact—we
now live in a devolved world that’s getting wackier each and every day.” I guess these guys haven’t jumped on the Barack-Obama-will-save-the-world bandwagon?
