Llik Your Idols!
No, that’s not a typo. Angelique Bosio’s documentary on New York’s late-’70s/early-’80s No Wave scene is actually called Llik Your Idols. The last few years have brought multiple reissues from some of the movement’s most notable bands, from DNA to Theoretical Girls, as well as some highly-anticipated reunions (I got to see Teenage Jesus & the Jerks and James Chance & the Contortions in the same summer!) and a handful of books on No Wave. But, as far as I can tell, Bosio’s film–which comes out May 19th via MVD Digital–is the first feature-length doc on the subject.
According to Prefix, the movie includes interviews with musicians such as Lydia Lunch, Thurston Moore, Richard Hell and Swans’ Jarboe, along with some of the scene’s essential filmmakers, including Richard Kern and Nick Zedd. Judging by the trailer, Llik Your Idols seems to focus primarily on No Wave’s influence on cinema. You can also watch the first four minutes of the film here.
