‘Tron 2′ to be Scored by Daft Punk?
File this one under “curious oddities in the rumor mill” and “potential matches made in heaven.” Until yesterday, I had no idea a sequel to Tron was even in formative stages, let alone a few steps away from getting the official green light, as potential casting and plot points have been sprinkled throughout the Internet.
There’s a ton of speculation about the sequel, and the biggest and most official sounding rumor pins electronic legends Daft Punk to the score, as prominent blog Upcoming Film Scores reports. Though the French duo has dabbled in soundtrack and film work in the past, this will mark their first official foray into the wonderful world of scoring. However, don’t expect a quick turnaround, as all pieces of news report that the film won’t see the light of day until 2011, a mere 29 years after Tron first appeared. Timeliness is for the birds, I guess.
As for Daft Punk, could this be as classic a pairing as peanut butter and jelly? Even though I haven’t seen the original ‘82 flick, I know enough to spot its influence all over the duo’s visual aesthetic. If anything, I’m curious to see how their score will stack up against Wendy Carlos’ 1982 original.
