Heathers: The Musical!

heathersI haven’t the words.  I didn’t expect much from my self-induced war on Broadway just last week, but I’m afraid to report that yet another classic film is being turned into a film.  This time, it’s Michael Lehmann’s 1989 black comedy Heathers.  One of my favorite ’80s flicks for sure, and one that helped cement Winona Ryder in my heart as a budding youth.

This one is not a bonafide guarantee, for better or for worse.  Director Andy Fickman is developing the production and is currently working with writer and composer Kevin Murphy and composer Larry O’Keefe.  The musical should be ready by 2010, but there’s no solid plans to make the transition to Broadway proper.  So you know what this means, right folks?  Time to stop this one dead in its tracks before it becomes fully realized…  Who’s with me?

However, should Heathers: The Musical make its way to the heart of Times Square despite our best efforts, I’m at least hoping they have the common decency to include the infamous “fuck me gently with a chainsaw” line.  Fingers crossed!
