The White Stripes Get Sued Instead

Posted on February 06, 2008

white stripes.jpgJoke's on us! Fox Sports won't get sued for their blatant use of the Arcade Fire's music, but the White Stripes weren't so lucky this week. Former Quebec radio host Dominique Payette is all kinds of pissed off over a ten-second clip of her show that was used on the Stripes' 2000 release, De Stijl.

This brings up a few questions, such as: Why now, after 8 years? Does it really take that long for new music to get to Canada? Isn't the sample free publicity? What's the meaning of life? Etc. etc.

If Payette's wish is granted, an injunction would go so far as to remove De Stijl from stores. The offending clip consists of a fuzzy snatch of conversation between a caller and Payette, speaking in French. You can listen for yourself right here.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go listen to the rest of the White Stripes' discography and make sure they didn't sample my college radio show. Those call-ins from the drunk kids on campus? Pure gold, and no one's getting THOSE for free if I've got anything to say about it.
