The Killers Cover Bright Eyes; the Noisettes Cover the Killers
If you were given to playing Six Degrees of the Killers, today would be your lucky day. Not only have the Killers just released a cover of Bright Eyes‘ Cassadaga single “Four Winds,” but yesterday, the Noisettes appeared on BBC’s Radio 1 for a live set that included a rendition of the Killers’ “When You Were Young.” Weird, huh?
As for how the covers turned out, well… as far as I’m concerned, “Four Winds” was one of the best tracks on a passable album. The Killers don’t add anything but Brandon Flowers’ unimpressive voice, a truly unfortunate drum machine and some misplaced synth vamping to the mix. Meanwhile, while “When You Were Young” is one of the most annoying songs ever written (remember those few months after it was released, when it was inescapable?), the Noisettes manage to give it some dimension with singer Shingai Shoniwa’s lovely voice and some welcome vocal harmonizing. At the end of the day, I kind of wish the Noisettes would have just covered Bright Eyes, taking the Killers out of the equation altogether.
Watch the videos (actually, the Killers video is just image-collage filler) and decide for yourself:
The Killers do Bright Eyes
