SXSW Band: American Princes
I first saw American Princes when I ventured down into Red Hook, Brooklyn, one night to see Lucero. That show was memorable not only for its music, but for the barbecue outside, the mechanical bull, and the fact that they ran out of PBR and whiskey at the bar. Seriously, don't put on an americana-influenced slate of bands - in Brooklyn no less - if you don't have enough PBR and Jack.
I had never heard the Princes live before, but I'd heard good things about them in the buzz surrounding that tour. And, honestly, the only time I'd ever heard them recorded was in the background of this YouTube video of a card trick.
When they opened the night, however, I was thoroughly impressed - and not just because they have a song about one of my favorite cities: Providence, RI. American Princes are a band that presents a smooth, muscular show and I'd be surprised if we didn't hear a lot more from them over the next few years.
You can catch them in Austin at SXSW on 3/14 at 5:20pm at the Lime Wire & YepRoc Records Party (no badges required).
