Music News from New York and Beyond

Just bought my tickets to All Points West, yay

mainPoster.jpgTickets for All Points West, the three-day music festival at Liberty State Park, went on sale today at noon through TicketMaster. Radiohead is headlining the first two days (Friday August 8 and Saturday August 9) with Jack Johnson headlining the last day (Sunday August 10). The full lineup is here, and includes Underworld and Andrew Bird on Friday, Animal Collective and Chromeo on Saturday, and Cat Power and the Secret Machines on Sunday (the Secret Machines are a personal favorite, so I'm stoked they've scored such a big event despite some shaky shows earlier in the year!!). The price of a single-day ticket: $89.

The show's organizers have also taken the initiative to reduce pollution: there will be no on-site parking at the park, which is located in New Jersey with huge views of Manhattan and the statue of liberty. A small concession is being made for people with pre-approved (and very limited) carpool passes. Most people will probably be getting to the show via a ferry that will leave from downtown Manhattan.

The no parking rule is no surprise, as Radiohead has made a big point of how little they like to tour these days because of the environmental damage it causes (nothing emits carbon like thousands of fans driving thousands of cars). Other green elements of the concert include a water bottle recycle program, where ten used bottles will get you a new bottle of water.

Many fans are probably pretty happy that Radiohead isn't doing the Madison Square Garden thing, and instead, is giving New Yorkers a chance to enjoy a big green space outside. Let's just hope this doesn't become a Field Day Fest debacle. Can't wait till August? You can catch Radiohead at various southern locales in May; check out the full tour dates here.
