Swans to Reunite?

Well, color me gobsmacked! According to a few personal accounts and a subsequent article on Brainwashed, New York-based no wave/experimental act Swans may be reforming, with rumors of a new record and tour in embryonic stages.
Essentially, the article claims that Michael Gira’s new set of songs, performed intimately at Tufts University, reminded the imposing singer more of Swans material than his latter-day efforts as The Angels of Light, and may appear on a future, undisclosed Swans record, the first since Gira retired the moniker in 1997. He didn’t offer a slew of concrete info, but a few enigmatic words were mentioned regarding a possible co-headlining tour, where both Gira-led acts would share a bill. The beauty and the beast, if you will, though each band is known individually for moments of immaculate beauty and guttural intensity.
Personally, I was too young to attend any legendary New York performance during Swans’ initial reign of terror, and I have yet to see The Angels of Light in action as well, so these little nuggets of information have me salivating at the possibilities. Let’s hope they come to fruition sooner, rather than later. In the meanwhile, feast your eyes on this rare classic Swans video for “Love of Life,” plucked from the 1992 record of the same name.
