Even Charles Manson Digs Creative Commons
Think nobody interesting uses Creative Commons?
CC is a special license that allows anyone to download, share and mix other people's music as long as they give proper credit. Recently, Nine Inch Nails released their album under a Creative Commons license, and it has been a great success!
Good old Charles Manson of the Tate and LaBianca murders has done the same thing. His recent album, "One Mind" is licensed in a way that allows anyone to share it with others, remix it and use it for non-commercial uses. The exact legal details are here.
So, you can download the full album here if you like (or you can shop for more Charles Manson at the LimeWire Store

Are there any real people out there. How can anyone in their Right Mind support an imbo like Manson or any of his mob of amimals if there is i reson to boycot anything its this one. Long live decency
This is a music blog, and this guy just happens to have made some good music. He is a horrible animal. But not his music.
supporting manson's art isn't supporting indecency: it's supporting the only decent thing about that man.
where does it say this album is under a creative commons license?
On the back of the CD. By the way, I've been trying to submit this to various news sites and they all censor me immediately. Guess Mr. Manson still scares a lot of people... http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=48310
Is this really under a Creative Commons license? I can't find out where it says this?
It's on the back of the CD: see the left-hand picture, bottom of the back of the case -- http://www.familyjams.com/?whatsup=homies
Thanks for the link, very interesting stuff.... ambushuuu.blogspot.com

STFU about Charlie,Brennant you pig ,come rond to yors o 1 nite slit yer throat like the pig u are
NIN has their studio in the house that Manson mangled. Marilyn Manson named himself after Sir Charles. What's worse, a Manson t-shirt, or a Che t-shirt. Well, one killed a few dozen people. The other killed thousands, either directly, or by selling them false dreams.
whether or not his music is good is a moot point. He's a cult figure, the instigator of an incredibly violent and brutal multiple murder, and someone with well-knoted persuasive abilities. having a creative output is one thing- having the opportunity to spread his meassage to receptive minds is chillingly different. and sqeeqee- people are entitled to their opinion. don't you think responding to a well-measured argument with somewhat illiterate threats of violence is a bit immature? it makes you seem idiotic. (I await your threats to slit my pregnant belly with baited breath, I really do). and dr nik- actually, yes, killing people, slitting their throats and coating a room in their blood is far worse than selling them false dreams. please don't try to justify your tastes with facile reasoning.
Why would you want the output of such a sick, stupid mind in you ears and head? I'd rather rub someone else's shit in my hair. Manson was a loser of the saddest sort, and if you choose to listen to him, you're buying into that.
He's inside you. Sad but true (TM)
The artistic output of this guy is clearly worth paying attention to. And what madman's art isn't? Obviously he's a madman, but he is safely locked away where he's allowed to ramble at great length, sing and play his guitar and tell people to fuck off. I just wish he wouldn't sing in every song. Just play the guitar on its own. The ambient noise in the background is fascinating as well. And the last 1:16 of track 14 is classic Manson. A keeper for sure. Cheers!!
just curious, what's the sentence for americans to instigate brutal and violent crimes abroad?
Betenoir, I feel since this is a music blog the quality of the music is not a moot point. Pad and Betenoir, just because you listen to something does not mean you buy into anything, especially since the cd is free. I know just because I listen to a politician's speech I don't go around chanting their slogan! Infomercials would be a more successful enterprise. We aren't killers here, we are people who enjoy music, we are curious to see what a killer can do musically.
Hey pad, thanks for sharing your fetish. srsly. I'm not "buying into" anything, I'm just capable of making a distinction between artist and art. I condone none of his actions (except lifting a guitar), but I also believe that to understand humanity, you must acknowledge and attempt to understand it's strangest and sickest members. Should Mein Kampf be outlawed as well? I listen to music that describes violence, but have committed no violent acts ever. I read books that describe deranged notions, and it furthers my understanding of why I believe the opposite. Amazing, huh?
Germaine and arnoldfriend - you seem intelligent, thoughtful types. I'd worry more about people who'd pick this release up, and find it builds the mystique. My question is - is someone like Manson capable of "art"? Or - to avoid the question of "what is art?" (zzzz): is he capable of making art that is worth my time. Do I think he could possibly have anything to say to me that I want to hear? I know the answer to that - a resounding NO! And further to that, I'm not even interested in giving him the chance.
that song kinda sounds like Neutral Milk Hotel
Yeah, listen to his crappy music while masterbating to his race war fantasies. Manson music is for losers.
Isn't this a result of that law that prevents murderers from benefiting financially from their crimes? I haven't heard the new songs, but if they're anything like the ones on LIE they don't relate much to murder. Even so, I can see a lawyer arguing that he is using his infamy to sell his music. That and Manson atleast tries to pretend he's a hippie. Free love isn't too far from free tunes in some minds.
totally non-violent music. manson is a fucked up person. but his music is pretty gentle. . . . remember that awful nu0metal song with the line "let the bodies hit the floor". i think that is disgusting.
Here's something cool and unexpected. When you play this stuff on WMP, Charlie's name comes up, but the music is sorted into the "unclassified" genre.
IRT pad - it's his monstrosity, precisely, that should make you curious about his art. If you want to know how a demon's mind works, whether out of curiosity or a higher motivation like protecting yourself from similar men, you have to be willing to open the shutters, admit he exists, and look at what he's done. We've seen art drawn from human suffering before - but from the perspective of the sufferers. You only have to worry about looking at life from the perspective of the inflictors of that suffering if you're worried you aren't good, if you're worried you might be infected somehow by him.
Hey people. Listen to the music and judge the music. There are numerous people; some respected, some reelected, some worshipped who were responsible for more heinous crimes than Charles Manson. In fact, he is serving a societal imposed punishment that is - under the US Judicial System - supposed to let him pay for his crimes. Factoid: Did you know that the judge who presided over Charles Manson's trial would not let him read a statement - speak for himself - a guarantee of our constitution. The judge determined the statement too persuasive and didn't want the jury hearing it! (isn't that what a trial is about - persuading people to decide guilty or not guilty) I'm no champion of his, it's just not so clear a case with him.
Brendan, buddy, lay off the acid.
Everyone, please keep things on topic. We don't want to play cleaning staff.
Regardless of who this is... his music sucks.
Heh, the good stuff is in the store. We are trying to sell stuff here, comprende?
Calm down, calm down. The man is locked up securely. He's not going anywhere. I for one believe that if there's anything redeemable in Charles Manson, it ought to be preserved. Regardless of the horrors for which he's responsible, his behavior now serves as insight into who he was and who he is and perhaps serves to educate us in recognize such persons in the future and, perhaps, to prevent their "turn to the dark side" if we can. In addition, if his art is of value to others, he may have some very positive influence on other lives which goes to bring balance to the negative effects of his previous behaviors. Let's not knee-jerk because it's "evil old Charlie." One thing can be said for any behavior - good or bad; there are always predictable and unpredictable positive and negative consequences to it all. If you look at it closely, there have no doubt been positive outcomes to his crimes just as there have been negative ones. The same can be said of all of us - no matter one's righteous claims.
How many people did Manson actually kill? Oh right, he didn't. Isn't it sad that the ones who committed the murder got less punishment than him? That said, music is about music, no matter where it comes from. If Satan himself tells you that you shouldn't cheat on your wife, it's still good advice.
TR, me and my buddies we want backstage tickets :) How is your dad doing?

If you believe that you morally ought to host this but lack the technical skills, wikipedia slashdot and totse can teach you a lot.
How creatively bankrupt must you be to look for value in this scumbags blathering? Do you know how many undiscovered geniuses there are out there who are NOT mass murderers? And, more to the point, how does this creature have access to any kind of recording equipment? He should spend his days looking at a blank wall and dying.
Mr. Robinson I'm glad you've progressed through the Denial stage.
actually manson isnt a murderer, he killed no one, his followers did.
Nate/Mike, can you clean up a little?
Thanks! I listened to this once and murdered like 5 people!
He's notorious for BRAINWASHING a bunch of easily influencial people and yes has a long criminal record- SO... what do you give a man who has the ability to influence people to murder... you give give him the ability to create records after he's had a ton of time to sit in a cell and figure out how to "get it right". How do you get his "agenda" right? Music of course. This can prove to be nothing or this can prove to have dire consequences. I shiver and cringe at his "freedom" to make his voice heard to a new generation.
*influenced (pardon my typo)
sqeeqee posted on Apr 4 - 2008 04:29:09 AM STFU about Charlie,Brennant you pig ,come rond to yors o 1 nite slit yer throat like the pig u are sqeeqee - R U a monkey ... have you been hiphoping for too long or did you just take a course in Ebonics ... cause you sure know how to communicate, and you're a good speller as well
so charles manson didn't kill anyone directly, but he had some pretty damn evil thoughts right? sounds like a bunch of people right here posting. and let's face it, you never know who else you may be influencing or instigating as you're also trying to be pretty persuasive yourselves. listen to the music or don't and give your comments on the music or don't.
when was this crap recorded?
I listened to a few of his songs. No potential. Some talent. Mostly ramblings. None of it is going to change the person he is. Sounds like 60's stuff to me. Not good enough for the radio or even a bar sitting. Why doesn't he play songs people can identify with? Like 'Born Free'. Or 'Live and Let Die'. Or 'Over the Rainbow'. Or 'The Green Green Grass of Home'.
I'm afraid you're a little late.
if i, micheal jackson, can get away with molesting kids and make money making music, so should charles manson. people over look my crimes, why cant they over look charlie's?
Back on topic please. Lets focus on the music. Has anyone picked a favorite track? Mine is "The Black Pirate"
manson is inocent ,manson is god ,free manson ,thanks for the album
fed frede, I hope your statement is somehow related to this artist's music. If it is, please share with us what about this music inspired you to make such statement.
I've only heard Charlie's original demo of Cease to Exist, which was rewritten by Dennis Wilson and covered by the Beach Boys as Never Learn Not To Love. Manson actually had a halfway decent singing voice on the demo. But he is a pretty depraved person. But he's behind bars, being denied parole, so he won't be around to kill anyone anytime soon. When he was let out of prison in the mid 60s he actually wanted to stay behind bars because he admitted he didn't know how to function in the outside world.
Why would anyone think that creative commons releases are uninteresting? I'd think it was the other way 'round, i.e. "Think nothing interesting is released by [take your pick, sony, rca, etc etc]?"
Danville...is a good old town.
kluimsy...how many hours of your life have you ever spent in a bar? I'm not talking about some white-washed sports bar in a city of yuppies, but someplace real, ya know, like a bar in Richmond, Kentucky, and you know none of the girls there are going to go home with you for whatever reason, and then a song like, "Garbage Can" comes on? It will really lift your spirits. Because this old world of ours is nothing if not a first-rate garbage can.
The fact that he is a massmurderer makes his music the more interesting. Anyone thinking that listening to his music is the same as supporting murder is just as twisted (same same but different) in his/her mind as the murderer and ought to stop writing posts and start learning an instrument. // Daniel - Sweden
He never got his hands bloody on the murder case! He´s kind of a symbol that concentrates every piece of human´s hate and uncouncious urge to kill and destroy. Free the man. He´s an artis above all things! Out there he wil be no killer! He´ll be a damn famous celebrity, live in L.A. and enjoy the rest of his miserable life to the most!
Pure curiosity has me clicking the button. I thankful someone was nice enough to take the risk to host it. I've heard about Manson forever, and most seem to agree though a mad man he had some good music. I've always wondered, now I can find out on my own.
"NIN has their studio in the house that Manson mangled." No, they HAD their studio there. Not anymore. And Trent didn't know it was the Tate house until he was already moved in. He didn't do it on purpose. " Marilyn Manson named himself after Sir Charles." Marilyn Manson is named after Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson; not because he idolized Manson, but because the two symbols represent the duality of American culture. I've never heard Charles Manson's music before...and it is actually rather good. I do think the man is twisted and a horrible human being for what he's done. However that doesn't mean listening to the music he produces makes you a bad person.
This is ridiculous. Since when was music judged on who the artist was? If this music was posted under a pseudonym, the majority of the people who said it was bad would not say the same. It's music. If you're dim-witted enough to be brain-washed by it, than so be it. You deserve it.
To james who posted about the song let the bodies hit the floor. That song is about a mosh pit not murder. Did Manson actually murder anyone himself? Nope.
great album, nice to see charlie still has it
I'm downloading the album. I might download his next one if I enjoy this one. Will I go out and commit crimes after listening? No. And if some crazy mixed up event forces me into a corner where a crime must be commited (like stealing a loaf of bread), will I do it because of the music? No. And heck, I might even make a dance mix of one of the songs... Creative Commons, WOOO!!!
@Dominic: let us know once that dance mix is done. We'd love to feature more CC-licensed material!
oh shut the fuck up john. god forbid we like music of anyone! Prick.
Hey here's a thought if you don't like charlie manson or his music don't fuckin listen to it..
its about time to get rid of this animal enuff wasting tax dollars just shoot the bastard
