What You're Doing Tonight - 4/1/08

stephenmalkmus.jpgOk, so all those rumors about Daft Punk playing at my house -- all an April Fools gag. Below are some real shows going on tonight. Keep your tomfoolery to a minimum.

The hot ticket tonight is over at Bowery Ballroom, where Pavement veteran Stephen Malkmus performs with The Jicks. Expect dirty guitars and brilliant melodies. Songwriter John Vanderslice opens. Doors open at 8, and tickets are $25.

Not too far away at Mercury Lounge, garage pop four piece The French Kicks showcase their harmonious melodies and swooning guitars. Surprised to see a band with such a dedicated audience playing such an intimate venue. The show kicks off a month long residency for the guys. Folk crooner Mac St. Michael opens the show at 9:30. Tickets are $10.

Need a throwback? Over at BB Kings, Beatles tribute band Strawberry Fields will be putting on a live show. Unlike other tributes, these guys emulate the fab four through costumes, hair styles and attitude. Sounds cheesy, but could be fun. Show starts at 8, and tickets are $25.
