The Killers Nominated For Four NME Awards
Posted on
English music weekly New Musical Express has announced the shortlists for each of the 19 categories of the first-ever NME Awards USA. The ceremony will take place at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on April 23. Don’t blame the ‘zine’s editors if you don’t like the selection of nominees because the list was apparently compiled through votes “by NME.com's online American audience.” The next round of voting kicks off today.
The Killers are surprisingly nominated in four categories, a milestone not lost on NME’s editor Conor McNicholas, who puts a happy spin on the band's achievement: "It's great to see The Killers nominated in so many categories. NME has supported them from the outset, and they've already picked up several awards in the UK; let's see if they can have the same success in their home country. With Arctic Monkeys also in the running to be big winners of the night, plus tough competition from Kings Of Leon, Foo Fighters and White Stripes, the inaugural NME Awards USA is shaping up to be an incredible night."
NME Awards will be broadcast live exclusively on NME’s MySpace page on April 23.

I take issue with so many of these choices, for so many reasons. I think they're doing this to demonstrate that Americans have poor taste - or something snooty and British like that.
