What You're Doing Tonight - 4/21/08

Posted on April 21, 2008

Full of matzah? Take a swig of Manischewitz, and check out some live rock tonight. Here are some options:

jayreatard.jpgTokyo Police Club @ Music Hall of Williamsburg: TPC is playing five shows in NY this week as they promote their new album Elephant Shell -- seeing them at least once is mandatory.

She and Him @ Hiro Ballroom: Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward have quickly enchanted indie fans with their light-hearted pop instrumentals, and sing along vocals. Guys, take your girlfriend to this show. [Update: Show canceled]

Cartel @ Blender Theater: Remember when these guys lived in a bubble on the west side highway? Tonight, you can see that their music (power pop) is more than a marketing ploy for Dr. Pepper.

Jay Reatard @ Bowery Ballroom: Five years from now, hordes of underground rock bands will be emulating the energy this guy brings to stage. This is what happens when experimental music is done right.

Peter Moren @ Mercury Lounge: Peter sans Bjorn and John performs an acoustic, whistle-free show tonight at Merc. Luckily, his solo songwriting is some of the best relaxed pop around.

I still think Cartel shouldn't have left the bubble.
