All Tomorrow's Parties Takes New York; There Will Be My Bloody Valentine
Holy fucking shit, you guys! I usually try to avoid the pottymouth (at least in writing), but I think you'll agree that the following revelation merits multiple strings of delighted curses:
ALL TOMORROW'S PARTIES IS (FINALLY) COMING TO NEW YORK!
MY BLOODY VALENTINE IS HEADLINING AND CURATING!
Someone up there has been listening to my prayers, obviously. You see, All Tomorrow's Parties has been talking for years about putting together an east coast show, but they never seem to get around to it. I was just about to give up hope.
But I guess ATP was just waiting to put together a lineup worthy of our little corner of the world. Well, they've done it! My Bloody Valentine hasn't done much of anything since releasing their classic, genre-breaking 1991 masterpiece Loveless. But they'll be touring Europe this summer, and Kevin Shields has been talking big about a new album that's supposedly almost finished.
And if MBV isn't enough for you, check out the rest of the lineup under the cut.
Built to Spill performing Perfect From Now On
Meat Puppets performing Meat Puppets II
Thurston Moore performing Psychic Hearts
Tortoise performing Millions Now Living Will Never Die
Shellac
Mogwai
Polvo
Fuck Buttons
Autolux
The Drones
Low
Wooden Shjips
Edan with Dagha
Thee Silver Mount Zion Orchestra
Crazy, right? Pinch yourself--you're not dreaming! And, according to ATP, the final bill we be comprised of about 30 acts, which means we're only seeing about half of what we're finally in for.
And now for the boring/depressing details: ATP will take place September 19-21 at Kutscher's Country Club, in Monticello, New York, which is about a two-hour drive from the city. Supposedly, it's accessible by bus, and ATP promises to run some buses of its own (just like summer camp!). Tickets for the weekend go on sale FRIDAY at ATP's website. They cost $225, and accommodations will run you about $150 extra. All I can say is, so much for that new iPod I was going to buy...
