The Clash's Mick Jones Sings an Ode to the "Don't Tase Me, Bro" Dude

carbonsilicon.jpgIn 1970, when the Ohio National Guard opened fire on a group of Kent State students protesting the Vietnam War, killing four and injuring nine, rock musicians across the country expressed their outrage by writing songs about the incident. Crosby, Stills, and Nash's "Ohio" was the first and most famous of these singles, but everyone from the Beach Boys to Sage Francis have since referenced the massacre in their music.

Now, another notorious on-campus/police brutality has been immortalized in song. Remember Andrew Meyer, the University of Florida student who was tased by campus police at a John Kerry event last year? You know, the one in the YouTube video who made the words "don't tase me, bro" into an instant catchphrase? Well, none other than The Clash's Mick Jones has composed a tribute to Meyer entitled (what else?) "Don't Tase Me, Bro." The song will appear on the sophomore album by Jones's new band Carbon/Silicon, which will be called Yeah, Whatever.com. (I guess he means internet = apathy? Gee, that's one I haven't heard before.)

Oh yeah, and it seems that Carbon/Silicon is also working on some Oasis covers. On the topic of the brothers Gallagher, quoth Jones: "I liked 'em when they first started out, quite a bit. I liked their eyebrows."
