Netherfriends Forever

Posted on April 25, 2008

netherfriends.jpgTwo times in a row, I ran into the same guy at the same pizza place and each time he told me to check out the band Netherfriends. It took me about a month to remember their name but when I finally did listen to them I was pleasantly surprised.

This oddball trio has been playing shows for less than a year but they just might be my new favorite Chicago band. Netherfriends are an utterly ridiculous delight. I'm talking let's hold hands and dance in a field of daisies like a bunch of cheesy assholes delightful. They remind me of a merrier Grizzly Bear and a slightly tamer Man Man. (their instrumentation is keys, glockenspiel, melodica, choirgirl harmonies, pots and pans, etc.)

The best part of all? They released their EP Home is Where My House Is on transparent cassette tapes. Looks like they have a tour in the works but could use a hand with filling in the gaps. Listen to their first two fantastically catchy myspace tracks, "Worean Kar" and "Tac Tac" and get these guys a show.
