mybloody.jpgIt’s a big week for those who worship at the altar of Shoegaze. Not only, as previously reported, is My Bloody Valentine curating, and performing at (!), New York’s first All Tomorrow’s Parties, but before then , fans will get a small helping of new Kevin Shields material, though not in the way they might think.

On July 11, Kevin Shields and Patti Smith will release "The Coral Sea", a live album comprised of recordings made during two performances, recorded at London’s Royal Albert Hall on June 22, 2005 and September 12, 2006, on the duo's new imprint PASK. The record won’t have a tracklist, but the performances consisted of Smith's recitation of a poem about her late friend, the photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, while Shields contributed background music.

While we haven’t heard anything from it yet, I think we can all be pretty sure of what this album is going to sound like, right? Swirling distortion and reverb while Smith gets progressively louder and more intense? Yeah, so it's going to be totally awesome and I can’t wait to buy it.

Now, if only Shields could get it together and release that new My Bloody Valentine album he’s been hyping for the past few months I could finally break out my ceremonial headphones and get down with some serious Shoegaze praise.
