What You're Doing Tonight - 4/25/08

Posted on April 25, 2008

Happy Friday! Enjoy the weekend with some live rock. Here are some options:

apachebeat.jpgFriday:

Saints and Lovers @ The Annex: Feeling spiritual? Doesn't matter. This shoegaze trio is sure to put you in a trance regardless. Stick around afterwards for Ruff Club.

Blip, Blip, Bleep @ Mercury Lounge: What a perfect name for an electro-rock group. The MMF trio celebrate the release of their new album Alarm Clock, Snooze Bar, Get Up tonight.

Black Dice @ Music Hall of Williamsburg: I can't understand the hype behind this experimental band, but apparently DFA and many many others do. Trippy newcomers Psychic Ills open.

Saturday:

The Fiery Furnaces @ Southpaw: Ever wonder what a crowd of new-age psychedelic pop fans look like? Here's your chance to find out.

Apache Beat @ Union Pool: Our friends over at The Music Slut introduced us to this band's mind bending sound. Get there early for Chairlift.

De Novo Dahl @ Bowery Ballroom: These guys have been criticized since they're an upbeat pop collective signed to a metal label. Regardless, they put on a great live show. Very fun.

Black Dice ain't bad. Saw them open for Sonic Youth and Lightning Bolt back in '02. One of the best shows I've ever seen.

...ooh, and Chairlift, they were a pleasant surprise for me during CMJ last October.
