Before Swede sensations I'm From Barcelona took the stage at Maxwell's on Friday night, Mike Grubbs and his crew, better known as Wakey!Wakey! was full of grins to grab the opening slot. Their excitement was contagious from the beginning as even the hippest of hipsters found themselves joining in with Grubbs' screaming, yelling, and glee. Performing a handful of songs off their critically acclaimed debut Silent As A Movie, Wakey!Wakey! commanded attention like the superstars they eventually will be. It was fun to see the band play in a new setting to a crowd unfamiliar with their playful stage antics. By set's end, the crowd fell head over heels, and rightfully so—Wakey!Wakey! owned that stage on Friday, and made sure to leave lasting impressions on everyone in the room.
