As last summer's festivities were winding down, there was a lot of speculation about the future of the beloved McCarren Park Pool Parties, put together by the fantastic promoters at JellyNYC. The city was trying to figure out what to do with the space, and deemed it unfit to serve as Brooklyn's very own summer fun headquarters for indie music fans. But perhaps the slow pace of government progress has worked in our favor, because JellyNYC has just announced a big line-up of Pool Parties for the summer of '08.

Bands playing this summer include:

The Breeders, MGMT, The Hold Steady, Liars, Aesop Rock, Black Lips, Deerhunter, Fuck Buttons, Matt & Kim, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Team Robespierre, The Loved Ones, Panther, King Khan and His Shrines, & Ting Tings

At first glance, this looks promising, to say the least. While I could live with never having to see The Hold Steady, I can't wait for The Breeders (KIM DEAL!). I caught The Black Lips just a few months ago at Bowery Ballroom, and it's clear they'll be perfect for a hot, sweaty summer afternoon. Deerhunter and Fuck Buttons have eluded me for the past few years, so I'm excited they're coming back into town. And who doesn't love hometown groups like Liars, Matt & Kim, and Team Robespierre?
