Trent Reznor Aids Nevada Fan, Receives New York Accolades

Contrary to popular belief, Trent Reznor has done more this year than simply play online practical jokes, Twitter and then renounce Web 2.0 once and for all. (Or at least until he needs more publicity.) He also did something wonderful for a fan in need: During his NIN/JA tour with Jane’s Addiction, Reznor offered a deluxe ticket package, including a pre-show meet-and-greet and donated all proceeds from those sales to Eric De La Cruz of Nevada, who needed to raise money for a heart transplant. And Reznor’s efforts were wildly successful: He raised nearly a million dollars for De La Cruz.
In response to Reznor’s generosity — and that of NIN fans who bought tickets to support De La Cruz — another fan, Mike Caplice, decided that the rock star could use some government accolades. So, on June 6, the man who is most famous for singing, “I want to fuck you like animal,” received a proclamation signed by New York Senator Charles Schumer, state governor David Paterson, and a handful of state-level legislators. ”I wanted the entire NIN community to see that their efforts have been recognized by all levels of government. I’m an 18-year fan of the band who has two parents with cancer, and have seen just how flawed the U.S. health care system is,” said Caplice.
