Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s Alec Ounsworth Wants ‘Mo Beauty’

clapyourhandssayyeahLet’s just say it: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah fell victim to the sophomore slump in a big way. The band’s self-titled debut was an indie rock revelation, updating the Talking Heads model for the new millennium. But CYHSY’s second attempt, Some Loud Thunder, was a mess of half-baked experimentalism. In their quest to move forward and leave their trademark sound behind, they also abandoned their strongest songwriting skills.

Lately, no one’s quite sure what the future will bring for CYHSY. As Stereogum notes, the band did show up on Jimmy Fallon’s show back in March to premiere a new track. But there has been no talk of a new album yet. And meanwhile, it looks like CYHSY frontman Alec Ounsworth is poised to release his solo debut. Mo Beauty will come out October 20 via Anti-. No one’s released any information as to what it should sound like, but the track titles reveal and playful, allusive sense of humor.

Track list for Alec Ounsworth’s Mo Beauty:

01 “Modern Girl (… With Scissors)”
02 “Bones in the Grave”
03 “Holy, Holy, Holy Moses (Song for New Orleans)”
04 “That Is Not My Home (After Bruegel)”
05 “Idiots in the Rain”
06 “South Philadelphia (Drug Days)”
07 “What Fun.”
08 “Me and You, Watson”
09 “Obscene Queen Bee #2″
10 “When You’ve No Eyes”
