The free McCarren Park “Pool Parties” are one of my favorite things about summer in New York. They’ve got a slip n’slide, dodge ball, beer and food -- but, for me, nothing beats lying on a big towel in the emptied pool and watching the bands; it’s the ultimate urban beach experience. The event’s organizers have just released this summer’s lineup, and from what I hear it’s going to be the last year (they’re actually going to fill the pool with water), so enjoy it. Be sure to check out Liars on July 20th, whose spooky live shows never disappoint, and definitely don’t miss Black Lips, Deerhunter, and King Khan + His Shrines on August 3rd for an afternoon of psych and garage rock fun. Brooklyn Vegan thinks The Breeders are headlining the July 13th show, but no confirmation yet.
