Hunter S Thompson, the author of Hell's Angels and Fear and Loathing in Los Angeles, is the subject of a new documentary which explores Gonzo, a type of journalism he helped establish. This brand of journalism placed the author in the center of the action, giving the reader an authentic perspective. The documentary includes interviews with past employers (Rolling Stone's co-founder Jann Wenner), former article subjects (President Jimmy Carter) and readers he has inspired (Johnny Depp). Gonzo hits independent theaters on July 4th.
