Danny Teneglia Looks into the Future
Remember 2002? It seems like it happened yesterday, right? Ken Lay stepped down as the chief executive and chairman of Enron, Ozzy Osbourne starred in his own MTV reality show, and Kelly Clarkson was the first American Idol. The year is also significant because it was the last time Danny Tenaglia released a mix compilation (his Back to Basics compilation, to be precise).
After a six-year break, Tengalia will release Futurism (digitally) on June 5 and (physically) on August 5. The two-disc set contains “The Space Dance,” which is the maestro’s first single since 2004. The track was inspired by his sets at Space in Ibiza, where the Queens, NY-based jock will hold down a weekly Thursday residency this summer.
Obligatory press gush from Mr. T: “If you think of the word ‘techno,’ it’s just short for technology. What was Kraftwerk doing? What was Larry Levan doing up in the booth, with reel-to-reel and reverb? They were being experimental.”
There’s good news for those who won’t be in Ibiza this summer: Tengalia is planning to tour all over the place in support of the disc.
