Wanna See Bob Dylan... in BROOKLYN?
Before I start this rant, I'm going to insert the disclaimer that I neither support nor condemn the Sex and the City movie. I was actually going to see it, because I did watch the show, but then the advertising and media hype and women wearing $800 shoes lining up for hours on the afternoon it opened grossed me out a little and I decided not to become part of the juggernaut. Okay, now that I've taken entirely too long to set this up: Apparently, the film makes ample fun of my dear home borough, Brooklyn, as if it's a barren wilderness where absolutely nothing is going on. Now, I don't know what kind of crack Carrie and friends are smoking, but even The Real World now understands that Brooklyn is the place to be (not that I'm excited about the show's impending arrival).
You know who's also going to be visiting Brooklyn this summer and outright snubbing his old stomping grounds in Manhattan?
Yup, you read that right. On August 12, Dylan will perform at the Prospect Park Bandshell, which happens to be my second favorite outdoor venue (after McCarren Park Pool, of course). Tickets go on sale this Friday at noon and--here's the bad news--it'll cost between $55 and $100.
