The band that consistently places first in the Most Likely To Be Identified By Initials competition, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club took a significantly more prosaic approach to naming their new concert DVD than they did to naming their band. The package is set for a November 10 release under the workmanlike title Live. Despite (or maybe because of) all their American influences, from the ’60s psych sounds that came out of their S.F. hometown to folk and blues, BRMC (there, we’ve already lapsed into it) have always been embraced more wholeheartedly in Europe. Accordingly, the DVD — which offers more than two hours of live footage taken from the band’s 2007 Baby 81 tour — captures the trio in some of the places where their most rabid followers are found: Berlin, Dublin, and Glasgow.

An elaborate three-disc affair, Live also includes a second DVD offering a behind-the-scenes view of the band plus extra live material, and a CD full of songs from the DVD, accompanied by 48 pages of photos. But don’t let all this rearview mirror activity make you think there’s nothing truly new on the BRMC horizon — Robert Been, Peter Hayes, and new drummer Leah Shapiro are currently at work on the next studio album, which is supposed to appear in March of next year. You’ll have plenty to keep you busy while you wait, that is if you can at least hang on until November.
