Stream: Times New Viking – ‘Born Again Revisited’

times-new-viking

It’s a good thing Matador has decided to stream all of Times New Viking’s forthcoming album Born Again Revisisted. You see, the record won’t be out until next Tuesday, September 22nd, and I was getting sick of waiting.

On first listen, the new record features 15 tracks of familiar fuzz and angst. (Matador does, however, remind us that Times New Viking has improved its recording quality by 25% on this album in switching from cassette to VHS masters.) High points include lead single “No Time, No Hope,” a bouncy noise-fest whose depressing lyrics are mostly lost in an angry sea of feedback. Also look out for spare, narrative “These Days” and lightly psychedelic “City on Drugs.” But the best track, as far as I can tell, is “Move to California,” a slow-build, dual-vocal arrangement with a catchy chorus.
