Throbbing Gristle Unveils The Gristleism

While Throbbing Gristle’s members have been occupied with a series of reactivated gigs, sound manipulator Chris Carter has kept himself busy with a series of technological innovations based on relevant wordplay. The latest in this series has just been announced for presale today, and by clicking here, you can own your very own Gristleism!
So what is a Gristleism? It seems as if Carter, along with Industrial Records and original concept designer Christiaan Virant, have cooked up a handy, portable digital noise manipulator based off of thirteen classic Throbbing Gristle tracks. Available in black, red, and chrome, the Gristleism features a 50mm speaker, a pitch shifter, and a hefty dynamic range, which makes easy and seemingly painless music experimentation possible with the palm of your hand.
The unit will be made available at several promiment music distributors worldwide starting in December (retailing at 19.99 GPB/approx. $40), while a limited edition “Badge” run will be available from the band’s official site only. For those who prefer to collect ‘em all, a box set containing all three colors will also be available in a silk-covered limited edition box with a certificate of authentication. Fancy!
Meanwhile, each of the Gristleism’s presets don’t necessarily replicate the exact sound and structure of the track they’re based on, but instead, each of the 13 tracks contains noise loops, feedback, and curious sounds constructed by the band over the years. The possibilities are endless, and instead of merely recapturing the same manic energy, musicians are encouraged to experiment and make their own unique cacaphony.
Can you imagine it? The opportunity to take some of the premier “industrial” band’s sounds and build your own with use of various effects and combinations? All for a reasonable price? Count me in!
