Paul Potts wins Britain's Got Talent

Posted on June 18, 2007

It seems like Britain has one upped us on talent. While Jerry Springer was parading around shirtless on America's Got Talent, the Brits were introducing some serious musicians/YouTube superstars on their version of the program. First came Connine, a six year old cutie whose "pitch perfect" voice managed to get the judges crying. Then came Paul Potts, a chubby mobile phone salesman, who shocked everyone when he proved he could sing opera.

Last night, the votes were counted, and Paul Potts was named the winner of the competition which started two weeks ago. As a prize, he wins 100,000 pounds, and an opportunity to perform in front of the Queen. My guess is that the Queen already saw his rendition of Nessun Dorma while surfing YouTube.

Here is the moment of truth:

Yeah, you heard right. Simon Cowell offered him a record deal. Oh Paul Potts, you're such a heartthrob.
