David Bowie Picks 12 Favorite David Bowie Songs

Posted on July 01, 2008

db.jpgThough he's no longer a youngster, David Bowie is known for keeping up with current bands and even advocating for the ones he likes, including Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and The Arcade Fire. CYHSY even gave the erstwhile Ziggy Stardust a shout out ("You look like David Bowie/But you've nothing new to show me") in their song "Over and Over Again (Lost and Found)."

But Bowie is also into the old greats--including himself. In this week's Mail on Sunday, he lists 12 of his favorite songs that he recorded. Of "Life on Mars?" he writes, "This song was so easy. Being young was easy. A really beautiful day in the park, sitting on the steps of the bandstand. 'Sailors bap-bap-bap-bap-baaa-bap.' An anomic (not a 'gnomic') heroine. Middle-class ecstasy." He's a pretty funny writer, actually. From his entry on "Some Are": "Images of the failed Napoleonic force stumbling back through Smolensk. Finding the unburied corpses of their comrades left from their original advance on Moscow. Or possibly a snowman with a carrot for a nose; a crumpled Crystal Palace Football Club admission ticket at his feet. A Weltschmerz [world weariness] indeed. Send in your own images, children, and we'll show the best of them next week."

Check out the whole article here. It's also packed with super-hot pics of Bowie throughout his career. Swoon!
