He’s Baaack…Garth Brooks Says “Later” To Retirement
Look at it realistically — it’s 2009, every band that ever made it out of the garage long enough to release a single is out there on the reunion circuit, building a set around the only album of theirs anyone ever bought and flogging the living beejeezus out of the phrase “in its entirety.” And when it comes to solo artists, forget it — without the bother of other people to reconcile with, everybody and their brother is back on the boards these days. Rumor has it your mother is planning a comeback tour in 2010. So how much time did you really think you’d have before Garth Brooks got tired of Friday night bingo at the retirement community?
The man who will be forever remembered for bringing the word “pyrotechnics” to country music hasn’t released a new album since 2001’s Scarecrow, and has been officially retired since October of 2000. Sure, he’s made the occasional appearance at one charity event or another, but for the most part, he has kept to his plan of staying home to raise his kids. Until now, that is. Brooks called a press conference for the announcement of his impending return, sayin: “We’re going to take the retirement roof off over our head.” There do, however, seem to be conflicting reports about what that entails exactly — according to the Associated Press, Brooks “has no immediate plans and will see how things go,” but it’s been reported elsewhere that he has four months of shows planned at Steve Wynn’s (no, not the guy from Dream Syndicate) Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Can an appearance on Dancing With the Stars be far behind? Let’s dare to dream.
