Relapse Records Store Closed; Label Soldiers On

Another little bit of retail heaven died off of South Street last week, as Philly's own Relapse Records Shop shut its doors. The storefront's mothership label, metal magnates Relapse Records soldiers on, making sure bands like Pig Destroyer and Zombi (yes, Zombi!) will have continue to have a home.
But where will the kids go after slopping down vegan pizza at Gianna's to pick up that classic Nile album on a whim? What loving retailer will offer suggestions on what B-horror DVDs have the best gore? When it gets cold before the show, where can a brother grab a Dillinger Escape Plan hoodie? Online? Seriously, Reversal of Man was right all those years ago...the internet is killing hardcore!
Wait a second. Calm down. Why are hardcore kids so reactionary? The good family at Relapse is still looking out for you. On the now-defunct store's myspace, former staffers recently posted a blog offering suggestions on where to get shop hardcore and metal in the Philadelphia area, retail-style. But I bet those other shops won't have GWAR just hanging around outside. Long live metal.
