Stream: Antony – “Nessun Dorma”

Just like a majority of people, Antony seems to really enjoy a good cup of coffee.  However, unlike most coffee drinkers, Antony has decided to sing about it, lending his impressive pipes to Lavazza, an Italian coffee company.

The piece in question is “Nessun Dorma,” a fantastic aria from Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot, a three-act opera that was originally left unfinished upon Puccini’s death in 1924.  In context, “Nessun Dorma” translates to “none shall sleep,” while the aria serves as a rallying cry for a unnamed prince in romantic turmoil.  As for the performance, it’s well…breathtaking, featuring Antony’s vocals backed by the Roma Sinfonietta Orchestra.

“As a tribute to the Lavazza brand values, Antony decided to record the track in Italian,” the coffee company’s website states.  To be honest, I’m not quite sure how opera equates to the smooth flavor and biting effect of coffee, but I can respect the Italian tradition and the preservation of the original aria’s language.

Interested listeners can stream and download the track via Lavazza’s official webpage viewable here.
