So all of you loyal LWMB readers will remember when we told you that Public Enemy was gearing up to record another album and was looking to their faithful legion of fans to donate money to fund the project, right? Of course you do, you’re here all the time. Some fans seemed to turn their noses up at the idea and scoff that the group wouldn’t get two nickels to rub together from fans, especially in an economy like this. Well, I’m not sure if you want your crow fried, baked or sautéed because the seminal hip-hop collective is proving everyone wrong and showing the real power of the people.

According to AllHipHop, the crew has already managed to raise a staggering $50,000 from fans to fund the upcoming PE album. Yeah, I said $50K. It’s only been a few weeks since the group linked with SellaBand, the online company that allows fans to personally fund their favorite artists’ individual projects, and the group has already raked in this much cash. Even though the amount of capital that the fellas have been able to raise already is impressive, their goal is $250,000, which they don’t see having a problem reaching. The doe will go not only to shell out for recording costs but also for all of the suit-and-tie shit that comes along with making an album like marketing and promotion.

Chuck D, the crew’s frontman had this to say about PE’s new arrangement. “SellaBand’s financial engine model goes about restructuring the music business in reverse, It starts with fans first, then the artists create from there,” he said. “The music business is built on searching for fans and this is a brand new way for acts to create a new album with fans first, already on board.”

Yeah, so for all you non-believers, it’s still not too late to jump on the bandwagon. Going to www.sellaband.com/publicenemy and dropping a couple of duckets can still get you exclusive T-shirts, backstage passes and even have your ass sitting in the very studio with the fellas as they record, among other things. You might even get a chance to touch Flav’s clock, and that my friends, would be PRICELESS !
