DMX Not Training For Upcoming MMA Fight, Readies New Album

dmxSo as we told you a little while back, DMX is broadening his horizons this December and stepping into the ring to fight a guy named Eric Martinez in an event called Alabama Pride. X is supposed to be squaring up with Martinez, who’s undefeated by the way (hey, 1-0 counts), in three two-minute rounds. Given, the Dark Man is very much so used to his share of scraps and obviously has the street appeal in the bout. But one thing that may not serve to X’s advantage is that he recently revealed that he will not be punching any big ass slabs of meat or running up snowy hills Rocky IV style and has chosen not to train at all for the fight.

“I’m just gonna walk in as it is man, you know what I mean? It wouldn’t be fair if I trained,” X told Washington, D.C. radio station 106.7 The Fan. “I think it’s three two-minute rounds…[My opponent] is shorter than me and I think he weighs a little more than me. I’m 175, six feet. I got a little build on me, you know what I’m saying?”

So X will literally be walking in off the street for this fight. The other thing that’s not to his advantage as well is the act that unlike most sanctioned boxing matches, there will also not be any health tests administered before the bell sounds. Since mixed martial arts is not regulated in the state of Alabama, no prior health precautions are mandated. There have been numerous reports of injuries, sometimes fatal, due to the violent sport but X seems to be unconcerned and will rely on his natural abilities.

“I can fight for real though, so it is what it is,” he said.

In other X news, the MC says that shortly after his foray into the ring, fans can also be expecting a brand new crop of material in the form of a new album, which he hopes will hit shelves in the first quarter of 2010. I’m in the studio everyday banging joints out — I got the pens and the paper. [New album] hopefully first quarter.” No word on if it will be the hip hop and gospel hybrid that the rapper had previously planned on releasing.

This man is a damn fool! He’s about to go into a ring with a trained, undefeated fighter! X has gotten himself into situations before, but this one tops them all.

Yea Me247, this does seem like a sticky situation for X but we can’t count him out just yet. I do hope he doesn’t seriously hurt himself though. The other dude probably IS training…

I feel like X going into the ring with no training is asinine. Having street fighting abilities is one thing, but he’s going against a trained fighter! Like, dude, this isn’t going to help his album sales. Maybe he’s just trying to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes and he’s actually working out now…you never know.

Good point. He could be playing possum on the training part to throw off his opponent. But X is usually a truthful guy so…idk
