Video: ‘Nowhere Boy’ (John Lennon Biopic) Trailer

Ever wonder what John Lennon’s youth was like, but not enough to read one of the zillions of readily available biographies? Well, then the forthcoming biopic Nowhere Boy may be for you. Shot in (where else?) Liverpool, the film is adapted from Lennon’s half-sister Julia Baird’s book Imagine This: Growing Up with John Lennon and was directed by Sam Taylor-Wood. Perhaps the best news is that the screenplay was written by Matt Greenhalgh, who’s responsible for the script of the masterful Joy Division biopic Control. Nowhere Boy stars Aaron Johnson (who Popwatch is wary of, as he doesn’t bare much resemblance to Lennon) and features Kristen Scott Thomas as the Beatle’s Aunt Mimi. And the soundtrack features Goldfrapp.

Rolling Stone points out that “It’s unclear whether the film secured the rights to use the Beatles’ music in the film, and the trailer doesn’t offer up any clues.” But we should know the answer to that question tonight, when Nowhere Boy premieres at the London Film Festival. Something else we don’t know yet: when the movie will be making it across the pond. The film opens over Christmas in Britain, but no U.S. release date has been announced.
