Album review: Billy Arnold – ‘Do You Remember’ (LAG)

Billy Arnold - 'Do You Remember'Country music has always been a part of Billy Arnold’s life, ever since his childhood in Florida. Claiming Conway Twitty and Alabama as his musical influences, Arnond manages to show his talent without sounding like anyone else. This album will be a treat for those who prefer their country music with a modern sound, as well as those who prefer a more retro style. Over the course of Do You Remember, he manages to be versatile in both his style and song selection. Some of the winners on this collection include the murky and mysterious-sounding “Burying Our Love,” as well as the singalong-style “Anything For You” and “To Get To You.” He dabbles with Latin music on “She’s Over Me,” and pauses to reflect on happier days on “Dear Vicki” and “Every Now And Then.” Arnold has a knack with material that can make you pause and think, such as he does on the album’s closer, “David”s Song.” You just might need a box of tissue to get through it, but the ability to infuse his songs with such emotional resonance proves that Billy Arnold is on the right track to the A-List.
