Young Canadian Musician Killed By Coyotes
A 19-year-old folk musician was killed this week while hiking by herself in Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia. Taylor Mitchell of Toronto was attacked by coyotes and was found by another hiker. The singer was flown to Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax, where she died from her injuries Wednesday. Royal Canadian Mounted Police killed one of the animals and sent its body for testing to try to determine the cause of the attack. Taylor was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award this year and was regarded as an artist on the rise. Mitchell’s mother, Emily, released a statement to the press today, thanking the public for their outpouring of support.
“There are no words to describe my grief,” her mother said. “Taylor was my shining light, my baby, my confidante and best friend. My world is turned upside down and forever transformed without her. I don’t know how to move forward from here but I know that she would want that for me and I will try to do that in her memory and celebrate her life in the way she lived it—with passion, commitment and an unbridled loving heart…. Her loss is an incomprehensible tragedy on so many levels—but everybody’s messages of love and support and desire to keep her memory and music alive will help me to move forward and honour her short but full and vibrant life.”

I find this very hard to believe.I lived in the Mojave desert in S.Cal. for more than 20 years, some times in very remote areas of the desert and I never heard of a human being killed by a coyote.coyotes will avoid contact with humans,we are not on their menu.they, like all animals don’t want to fight for their dinner.this story just rings false to me.

It sounds wierd to me as well. Coyotes dont travel in packs they are mostly loners. It is more likely wolves that did this rather than coyotes. Or possibly coy-dogs, crosss breed of coyotes and domesticated dogs, those animals do not have the fear of humans that most wild coyotes do.
