Iggy and the Stooges Plan Full Slate of 2010 Tour Dates

Hallelujah! After months of speculation on the veracity and extent of the Iggy and the Stooges reunion, we’re finally getting some answers. BBC News confirms that the band is prepping for a major-league tour in 2010. “We’re going to be doing a one-off show in Brazil in a few weeks but the real touring starts next year,” the Ig said in an interview. To review, Iggy and the Stooges is different from the plain, old Stooges because the original band featured James Williamson — not the late Ron Asheton — on guitar. Of Asheton, Pop had this to say: “His spirit within the group remains with the rest of us and he is still a presence within the group without being on the physical plain.”
Add the new announcement to what we already know about the reunion, and it looks like Iggy fans can look forward to a pretty promising 2010. First of all, the Ig let slip last month that the band is gearing up to play its classic album Raw Power at the next All Tomorrow’s Parties NY festival. And Consequence of Sound reminds our British friends that they’ll be able to catch Iggy and the Stooges live at London’s Hammersmith Apollo in May.
In other Iggy Pop news, the legend briefly commented to the BBC on the strange rumor that Elijah Wood is slated to portray him in a forthcoming biopic. “I have no idea whether that is the case, I doubt it,” said Pop. “I haven’t had any contact with those people for a queen’s age, a long time.”
