All Tomorrow’s Parties Documentary to Screen in Austin, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York

atp movieAhh, it’s good to be a city girl. What with all this Woodstock hoopla and nostalgia behind us, it’s refreshing to know that a documentary about a current music festival that actively (and non-corporately) pursues creativity is getting its day in the sun, and if you live in one of the cities above, you get an early peek at its documentary! All Tomorrow’s Parties is a patchwork production made up of mobile phone, Super 8 and camcorder footage from 200+ fans, musicians and filmmakers over the course of the festival’s more recent years, both in Europe and the U.S.  The meat of its material comes from Jonathan Caouette (Tarnation) and cinematographer Vincent Moon (The Take Away Shows). Promising to capture the organic, dizzying and blissful musical energy of the All Tomorrow’s Parties festivals, with appearances by Belle And Sebastian, Grizzly Bear, Sonic Youth, Battles, Portishead, Daniel Johnston, Grinderman, David Cross, Animal Collective, Mogwai, Slint, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Gossip, GZA, Iggy and the Stooges, Shellac and Patti Smith. And if you’ve been paying any attention to the ATP lineups of the past, you know there’s a lot more where that came from. Like a chump, I’ve been unable to get my sorry ass to the ATP NY festivals of the past couple years, so I’m hoping this movie will amp me up so much that I’m inspired to sell plasma or something and secure a ticket for next year.

All Tomorrow’s Parties gets its official DVD/download release on November 24th (pre-order here), but there’s nothing like the big screen, right? You can check out a preview here. Show dates below…
