Collaboration of the Century: “Weird Al” and Pixies

As far as collaborations are concerned, anything goes in this day and age.  Punk icons have been spotted mingling with teen princesses, while Weezer has made an entire record featuring contributions from Lil’ Wayne and Butch Walker.  It may very well be a sign of the impending apocalypse, but a proposed collaboration between comic singer “Weird Al” Yankovic and members of Boston alt-darlings Pixies might just be too amazing to fathom.

The collaboration between this unlikely pairing will occur at a benefit in Los Angeles.  Yankovic is scheduled to appear on stage with the band to sing “I Bleed,” a deeper cut from 1989’s Doolittle. The benefit will take place on December 8th and is part of a two night series that  aims to raise money for the Winston’s Village organization, which supports the family of Winston Bertrand, a nine-month-old baby born with two extremely rare and life-threatening conditions.

Pixies frontman Black Francis will be hosting the event, and will also perform over the course of the evening, appearing solo, with wife Violet Clark, and of course, with members of Pixies, with Flea filling in for Kim Deal.  Members of Love and Rockets and She Wants Revenge are also scheduled to perform, while the second night will feature comedy by Tim and Eric, Bob Odenkirk, and Pixies drummer David Lovering.  Francis is also scheduled to perform on the second night, which certainly sounds interesting.  Who knew that the band had a knack for comedy, aside from morbidly goofy lyrics and the occasional sketch betwen tracks?  For those unable to attend the benefit, let’s just hope that both nights will be professionally recorded, or at least caught by dozens of amateur cameras.
