Stream: Sean Lennon’s “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead” Movie Soundtrack
Beatles composer and producer George Martin must be proud of Sean Lennon’s latest endeavor: the largely instrumental and positively freaky soundtrack for Jordan Galland’s 2009 independent film Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead. It seems we just can’t get away from those sexy-ass vampires, as the plot revolves around bloodsucking playwright (John Ventimiglia) of fictitious production Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead and the horrors that befall those involved in its staging. The film also stars Jason Hoffman (son of Dustin Hoffman), Ralph Macchio (!), and Devon Aoki, and is based on Tom Stoppard’s 1966 play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, a dark comedy about two minor characters from Hamlet.
The soundtrack is mainly reminiscent of a Tim Burton movie score, but Lennon adds electric guitars and hip-hop beats to more traditional instrumentation and the end result conjures thoughts of a Troma film with a budget. Make sure to check out the last track, “Desire,” featuring Kool Keith and Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto. Stream here.
