Blipfest 2009 Announces Chip-tastic Initial Line-up

blipfest2009Hey, video game enthusiasts and music nerds! It’s that time of year again, when your tribes come together to celebrate the glorious intersection of your pet interests. That’s right: Blipfest 2009 is right around the corner! A collaboration between arts groups The Tank and 8bitpeoples, the festival takes place December 17-19 at Brooklyn’s Bell House. And in a year that’s brought us chiptune cover compilations of both Weezer and Daft Punk, you’d best believe that video game music is bigger than ever.

In its fourth year, Blipfest boasts an international line-up of musicians, filmmakers and visual artists who take their inspiration from such classic systems as the Commodore 64 and Amiga, the Atari ST and 2600, and the Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy. It sounds like musical performances will only be the half of it: The all-ages event is also slated to include workshops, screenings and open mics.

Unfortunately, due to our ongoing economic suck, Blipfest has had to ask its supporters to lend a hand — and they’ve already raised nearly $4,000 of the $5,000 they need to pull off this year’s event. Generous souls can donate here to help put them over the top. If you need a bit more convincing, check out the festival’s initial line-up of musicians and visual artists, as well as a video of Amanaguchi performing at last year’s Blipfest, under the cut.
