Video: Plastic Ono Band – “Waiting for the D Train” (Live on Jimmy Fallon)

yoko

Because I can’t go to sleep without some kind of noise (thanks, boarding school), I generally nod off sometime during one late show or another. Last night, it was Jimmy Fallon. And you know what? I had some pretty damn strange dreams. I wasn’t sure why until, this morning, my boyfriend casually mentioned, “So, I think I remember that Yoko Ono was on Late Night, and she was squealing something about waiting for the G train.” At the time, I laughed it off. Yoko Ono? On national television? With a song about the G train? No, it couldn’t be true.

Well, folks, thank heavens for Hulu. Now, I know that most of what he was telling me really was true. Ono was playing with her reconstituted Plastic Ono Band, featuring her son, Sean Lennon, and Mark Ronson. And you know what? For a 76-year-old lady, she was pretty effing punk rock! (Plus, Yoko looks great.) As for the track itself, unfortunately it’s “Waiting for the D Train,” not the G. Although those of us who have spent any time in Brooklyn can understand why the latter might be a more appropriate choice.
