Echo and the Bunnymen Cancel US Tour

Echo and the Bunnymen have canceled their entire U.S. tour due to an IRS tax ruling.
The tour, which was slated to begin in Atlanta, was canceled due to a taxation issue, a rule which states that foreign bands must pay a fee if they tour in the US more than once in 30-day period. Just last month, the band appeared at the Mercury Lounge here in NYC, playing an extremely intimate set to a sold-out crowd. However, this appearance triggered the IRS fee and has forced the band to pull the plug on several dates in November, including shows in Boston, NYC, and Chicago.
A statement on the band’s website claimed these fees were “unreasonable” and that the group would be back to tour the US in early 2010, supporting their latest record, The Fountain. Meanwhile, ticket holders are encouraged to contact venues for refund information.
