Album Review: Various Artists – ‘Best Of Good Hands’ (Good Hands)

Best Of Good HandsTake a litany of lauded lyricists in seemingly odd combinations, throw them together on one album, and what do you get? Time’s up; the answer is Best Of Good Hands, a non-stop star-studded verbal assault that is sure to leave listeners rewinding this album like an old VHS tape. The suspenseful “Til The Sun Come Up” — featuring a heavy-hitting lineup of Freeway, Kurupt, and Tangled Thoughts — sets the bar high early on this every-man-for-himself track, where the friendly competition to spit the best verse benefits those fortunate enough to be blasting this album through their headphones. Nas and Killah Priest trade verses on the “Gun for Gun” East Coast remix, with neither artist disappointing. The young cats show that they are ready for the spotlight, too, as Charon Don and Wiz Khalifa rep for Pittsburgh on the surprising standout cut, “From Around Here.” Camp Lo chimes in on the party with their ’70s-inspired “Soul Fever,” and Rah Digga and Lil Scrappy team up for the ruckus “Up In Here,” begging you to challenge either one. With some of the game’s best MCs from all over the map getting in on this one, Best Of Good Hands has something for everyone to vibe to.
